Abstract :
The  Southern  River  Terrapin,  Batagur affinis (Cantor, 1847), is a critically endangered freshwater turtle with a highly fragmented distribution in Peninsular Malaysia, where several river systems are believed to have experienced local extirpation. We report the first confirmed evidence of reproduction of B. affinis in the Kuantan River, Pahang, Malaysia, based on the discovery of four nests containing 41 eggs. Twenty-two hatchlings (53.7%) successfully emerged under ex situ incubation, confirming persistence of the species and highlighting the value of community reporting and targeted surveys for conservation planning efforts.
